Immanuel’s own Eight Women Writers were featured guest presenters at the fall social of the McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning, Sunday, November 13, 2011 at the Casino Ballroom of Georgian Court University in Lakewood. The women shared their process for co-authoring their cozy mystery, The Sandcastle Mysteries: Death and Deception at the Jersey Shore, with the attendees, members and friends of the McAuley Institute. The Eight Women Writers are: Adelaide Sooy Weidknecht, Mary Ann Tobin Kerns, Elaine Turansky, Alva Rickel Hall, Lillian Sortland Tesoriero, Anita Langbein Paerg, Karin Porter Holldorf and Eva Saks LaBrozzi.
Attendees at the November 13th event included artists, poets, entrepreneurs and instructors who were interested in all aspects of the group’s journey. Enough interest was generated that in June of 2012, the Eight Women Writers will offer a course on “Turning Memories into Memoirs” through the McAuley Institute for Lifelong Learning, a program tailored for people aged 50 and over who want to continue learning, but not via full term college classes. The classes will be held at Georgian Court University.
On October 29th and 30th, the women sold their books at the annual Oktoberfest at the Taj Mahal Casino in Atlantic City. They were visited by Gisela Bly, the artist who created the design for the book’s cover, Paul Weidknecht, and many of Anita’s friends from the German choir.
November was a busy month. The writers gave seminars on “Turning Memories into Memoirs” to two Brandywine locations: one in Toms River and one in Brick. Not only did they discuss their book at these sessions, but they talked about how people can tell the stories of their lives, not only by writing them down, but also by capturing memories in scrapbooks, quilts, clocks, candles and other “crafty” items.
